A powerful explosive was found inside the UP Assembly yesterday that showed a massive security breach.
On July 12, security personnel with a dog squad found 150 grams of white powder wrapped in a small bag. The powder was sent to the laboratory for testing, which confirmed that it was PETN. PETN (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate) is a very powerful explosive that is one of the most difficult to detect. Due to its plastic structure, this white powder can pass metal detectors and security checks.
When the powder was found, UP CM Yogi Adityanath was present in the assembly. He called for stricter security and vigilance and rued the unavailability of a Quick Response Team for the state. The CM said,

The packet of the explosive was found under the chair of the Opposition’s leader. It was 150 gm of PETN. 500 gm of PETN is enough to blow the whole Assembly off. This shows the severity of the situation. I suggest that everybody present in the Assembly should be investigated by the police and that the NIA should investigate into the matter. It’s unfortunate that the largest Assembly of the country doesn’t have a QRT.
He further added that this act was in cahoots with a militant outfit and that the security of his state and the country is vital. He urged security forces to not be lenient when it comes to the security of the citizens. Following up on the incident, UP Assembly Speaker, Hridaya Narain Dixit, said that a QRT will be deployed near the Assembly compound.
