2018 will go down in Bollywood history as the year that showed us that three biggest Khans — Salman, Aamir, Shah Rukh — are not invincible. Be it Race 3 for Salman, Zero for Shah Rukh Khan, or Aamir’s Thugs Of Hindostan, Bollywood’s ruling A-list terribly failed to woo the audience. Both viewers and critics were unable to understand how such appalling movies could come out of the country’s biggest actors.
At the same time, the year also saw a good number of debuts and brought a lot of fresh faces to grace the big screen. Be it late Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor, Saif’s daughter Sara Ali Khan, or Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter, many budding actors and actresses made their debuts in 2018 and grabbed eyeballs. Also, there were few offbeat movies that certainly added on to the fun.
It is said if you have to make it big in Bollywood, all it takes is some good looks, talent, hard work, and of course, a lot of good luck. By luck we mean actors are making sure that they’re the right person at the right time, doing the right role. No doubt sometimes actors end up picking up wrong movies, but if talent is something to go by, there are many who have all the potential to be a star someday. Take a look at this list and you’ll agree with us that these stars certainly have the potential to make it big in 2019.
1. Vicky Kaushal
From Masaan to Manmarziyaan, Vicky Kaushal has risen steadily to become one of the country’s most coveted actors. His father is the veteran Bollywood action director Sham Kaushal, who has films like Om Shanti Om, Dangal, and Padmaavat to his credit. But despite his father’s filmy background, Kaushal’s versatility is what makes him stand out from the rest. His appeal lies in the fact that after a long time, we have an actor who makes the critics happy. His natural performances in Netflix’s Love Per Square Foot and Dharma’s Raazi, as well as in Lust Stories have made him the darling of fans across the nation. He is definitely an actor to sit up and take notice of.
2. Sara Ali Khan
Daughter of veteran actor Saif Ali Khan and his first wife Amrita Singh, Sara Ali Khan made her debut with Abhisekh Kapoor directorial Kedarnath. Despite being media shy, she is also seen as the next big thing in Bollywood. Her acting has been admired by critics and audience alike. People from the industry describe her as an intelligent, witty and mature girl. There are also some who say she is more appealing than Janhvi Kapoor in terms of personality. Her current release, Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, in which she stars opposite Ranveer Singh, has managed to earn over Rs 68 crore in the first two days.
3. Sohum Shah
Actor and producer Sohum Shah has come a long way since Ship of Theseus (2013). Despite taking six years in the making, his latest production Tumbbad was able to receive positive reviews. With four films and a national award in his belt, Shah is truly a master of playing complex characters.
4. Mithila Palkar
Internet sensation Mithila Palkar accidentally shot to fame after her cup song video went viral on the internet. Mithila found her popularity in Netflix’s Little Things (2016) and TV series Girl in the City. Despite the series having no particular storyline, she impressed the audience with her spontaneity and charm. The YouTube star is a popular face on television as well, as she has numerous commercials to her credit. The wide-eyed digital star and actor has made her Bollywood debut with Karwaan, in which she was seen alongside Dulquer Salmaan and Irrfan Khan.
5. Ishaan Khattar
Ishaan Khattar has no formal training in acting. He was born to actors Neelima Azeem and Rajesh Khattar. Hailing from a family of actors, acting came naturally to him. He first appeared on screen in Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!. After doing Iranian film-maker Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds, the young lad made an impression in his big-ticket Bollywood film Dhadak, the Hindi remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat. With two films to his name, he has everything going for him.
