Bollywood celebrities keep travelling out of the country for work as well as vacations. At the airports all over the world, security matters cannot be taken casually. Regardless of whether the traveler is a commoner or a celebrity, the rules of security check are same for all. And so, a number of people, including some of our tinsel town celebs have been detained on airports for security reasons at several occasions.
Here is the list of Bollywood celebrities who have been detained at airports:
1. Shah Rukh Khan
Getting detained at international airports has become a kind of repetitive affair with the Bollywood’s ‘King of Romance’ Shah Rukh Khan. So far, he has been held at London, New York and Los Angeles airports. A number of times, even the reason of his detention has not been disclosed. In 2016, he had even shared his outrage because of repetitive humiliation he had to face for getting detained at airport. Take a look at his tweet below:

2. Anushka Sharma
She was once held at Mumbai’s international airport while returning from an international trip. According to officials, she was allowed to go only after she paid custom duty for handbags, watches and jewelry. However, according to Anushka, she had forgotten to disclose about the jewelry while she was going abroad.
3. Irrfan Khan
Irrfan Khan has been detained at international airport many times in the past. He was held at Los Angeles airport in 2008, at New York airport in 2009 and a number of times at different airports in the US.
4. John Abraham
Bollywood heartthrob was held at New York airport in 2009. It is believed that he was held only because he has been to Afghanistan in the past.
5. Bipasha Basu
Bipasha Basu was detained in 2011 while returning from London when she crossed green channel along with the stuff she had brought from abroad. According to officials, she was carrying some undeclared items, the value of which, however, was not very substantial. She was allowed to go when she paid the duty.
6. Kamal Hassan
Back in 2002, Kamal Hassan was detained at Toronto airport when the authorities mistook him for a terrorist. It happened only because his surname is Hassan and was considered as Muslim by his looks.
7. Saba Qamar
Pakistan actress Saba Qamar rose to fame in India with her spectacular acting in film ‘Hindi Medium’ co-starring Irrfan Khan. Earlier this year, in a television talk show, she had revealed that she has been held at international airports a number of times just for having a “Pakistani passport”. She also recalled the incident when she was traveling to Tblisi with Indian crew and all the Indians were allowed to go without much scrutiny while she was held back for interrogation.
8. Shilpa Shetty
She was detained by security officers while traveling for Germany. It happened because a case had been registered against her by scheduled caste community for making an insulting remark on them.
9. Neil Nitin Mukesh
Neil Nitin Mukesh was held at New York airport, apparently for being too fair to be an Indian. After the incident, the actor said that this changed his attitude towards his character in film ‘New York’ that was also about discrimination.
10. Aamir Khan
In 2002, Aamir Khan was stopped at Chicago airport for interrogation. In fact, he was not only detained but also strip searched.
11. Kabir Khan
Kabir Khan was once detained for talking to his co-passenger in Hindi. Strange but true! While he was traveling from Los Angeles to Washington, he was having a conversation with his co-passenger in Hindi. The airport authorities thought it to be some kind of strange language. For this, his name was checked on Google for any kind of terrorist connections and he was allowed to go only after that.
12. Minissha Lamba
After she appeared at Cannes’ international film festival, she was returning to India when she was held for carrying undeclared jewelry worth Rs 50 lakh. Reportedly, she told the officials that she was not aware of the formalities and was released after 16 hours of interrogation.
13. Preity Zinta
While on her way to Delhi, Preity Zinta was asked identity proof by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to which she refused. After a long argument, she furnished the required documents and was then allowed to go.
