Some might call it the gift of the Ganges, but devotees who came for a dip in the holy river flowing through Mirzapur were surprised to see currency notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denominations floating on the water.
The notes were obviously discarded by those who earned them through illegal means but now have no use following the Modi government’s decision.
Police and boatmen fished the notes out of the water. The cops checked the currencies.
Discarding of notes in strangest ways have become common story across the country. At Bareilly a sack full of the scrapped currencies was discovered. A rag picker found an abandoned bag containing the scrapped notes totalling to a tune of Rs.50,000.
The Modi government’s brilliant move brought those with black money and dealing in fake currency on their knees. Since the black money cannot be taken to the bank, they are now “useless paper”.
