The office of Bhartiya Janta Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the Kannur district of Kerala was vandalized and then set on fire by unidentified miscreants.
A violent crowd attacked Mararji Bhavan, functioning as office of BJP in Payannur area of Kannur district in Kerala. No injuries have been reported in the incident that took place on Tuesday.
As per the police report, there was no one present inside the building at the time. BJP workers have called for a strike in Payannur on Wednesday, the day following the attack, and have claimed that the attack was done by CPI-M.
According to the report by Zee News, houses of a few workers of both the parties were also attacked. The situation is now under control and a few persons have been taken into custody by the police.
This is however, not the first case of political violence between BJP and CPI-M.
Members of CPI-M have alleged that three country-made bombs were hurled at their motorcycle rally in Payannur on Tuesday. The rally was organized on the day of first death anniversary of Dhanraj, a CPI-M worker who was allegedly killed by RSS activists on July 11, 2016. Reportedly, seven activists of CPI-M were injured in this attack.
In May, an activist of BJP was hacked to death. The 32-year old was an accused in the murder case of CPI-M worker Dhanraj.
The office of RSS and BJP has suffered some damage because of the fire set on Tuesday. The investigation into the incident has already been started by the police. After a forensic examination, it will be known whether a petrol bomb was used in setting the building ablaze.
