In an alleged attack by TMC workers, BJP MP, George Baker, and four other party workers have been reported to be injured. The politician was attacked at Kalna town in West Bengal’s Burdwan district.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the attackers brick-batted Baker’s car and marred it. Baker, who is an actor and also a nominated BJP Lok Sabha member, was at Kalna as a part of BJP’s Vistarak program. After the attack, the injured MP came out of his car with the help of the police.
Baker later filed a complaint with Kalna police. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, along with the others who were harmed. Baker had bruises and marks on his back. He was discharged after proper first aid while the others were admitted to the hospital, sources said.
As per the report, Baker revealed,
They (TMC) were beating our party men. When I got down from my vehicle they attacked me. One of them tried to hit me on the head but I resisted it. Some of them hit me from behind.
State BJP president, Dilip Ghosh, alleged that his party workers who were involved in the Vistarak program, were beaten up in the state, almost everyday.
TMC Burdwan (rural) district president and state minister, Swapan Debnath, revealed that he had heard of the incident and denied that his party had any role to play in it. Swapan explained,
The incident was a result of an intra-party feud in BJP. Police should investigate.
