Militants in Kashmir have killed Gowhar Ahmad Bhat, the youth wing leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Killora village in Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Police found Bhat’s body with his throat slit, and torture marks on his body. According to police officials, he was abducted and later murdered.

The BJP has termed the killing of Gowhar Ahmad Bhat, with “real intolerance”. In a tweet, the BJP’s national spokesman Sambit Patra said a Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha worker, was killed because he believed in a ‘particular ideology’.

In a series of tweets, BJP president Amit Shah called Ahmad a “martyr” and said terrorists will not deter the youth of the Valley from choosing a better future for themselves.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, urged to end the unending cycle of violence, and express her condolences to the family of the slain Ahmad.

Even opposition condemned Ahmad’s murder. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah termed the murder a ‘heartless’ act and tweeted:

The killing is the latest soon after the Centre relaunched the dialogue process. The government has chosen former Intelligence Bureau chief, Dineshwar Sharma, on October 23 to talk to all stakeholders to find a solution to the 30-year-old Kashmir insurgency. Two weeks earlier, militants shot dead a worker of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the same district.

Twitterati too have expressed their views on Bhat’s killing:
