How many teenagers dare to dream of lavish cars, pretty girlfriends, unlimited pocket money, live TV appearances, expensive holidays, celebrity catch ups and having their own website before they pass high school? Well, this 12-year-old did exactly that and even managed to achieve his dream after a casual bet with his parents that he would be a millionaire – only because he didn’t wish to attend college!
Meet ‘Bitcoin boy’ Erik Finman, who by the ripe age of 19, is a millionaire! The rich lad made a bet with his parents that if he turned 18 and was a millionaire, they wouldn’t force him to go to college. Thanks to his savvy investments in Bitcoin and its current all-time high valuation, he was able to win this ‘unique’ bet!
“If you don’t become rich in the next 10 years, then it’s your own fault”.
For this teenager, money isn’t really a problem. This happened all thanks to his dream of no grad school and finding a way for doing so. Eric is now worth millions and thinks if you’re not a millionaire in 10 years, it’s your own fault!
The current crash isn’t putting him off at all. Bitcoin as a digital currency is very volatile and its value could decline rapidly. But the millionaire believes:
“Personally I think bitcoin is going to be worth a couple hundred thousand to a million dollars a coin.”
The rural Idaho native is the founder of Botangle.com which offers tutoring over video chat services for teens like him. To fund the site, Finman began investing in Bitcoin in May 2011 at the age of 12, thanks to a $1,000 gift from his grandmother and a tip from his brother Scott. The then unlikely digital currency soon shot in value, and he had $100,000 in his credit.
For those who aren’t sure about what Bitcoin is, here’s a video to help you sail through:
Erik once told Business Insider, “For me, however, it would be the wrong strategy to sell after such a fall in prices, because I believe that there is a real chance that value will rise again to the levels we last saw,”.
Thanks to his bitcoin purchases, he became an inspiration and owed his success to his beliefs.
Several people noticed his success and wrote about it. Just like CNBC. And he thinks you can do it too. He even got featured on Ted Talks to give an encouraging talk!
News portals announced his success as well.
