Sometimes, some things just touch the right chord in our hearts and play the music of warmth and love. One such chord recently got tuned by a cute and spirited couple in Vodafone’s new ad campaign. In a recent interview given to afaqs!, the Padma Bhushan Awardees turned actors opened up about this new experience.
Shanta Dhananjayan (73) and V.P. Dhananjayan (78) turned into Asha and Bala for Vodafone’s latest ad campaign. The adorable grandma and grandpa are award winning Bharatnatyam dancers and dance teachers from Chennai.
Shanta says, “When we were approached, it sounded pretty interesting and we really didn’t think this was going to end up becoming such a large scale (campaign).” We are not surprised because what went into the making of this ad campaign was pure fun as the 73-year-old dancer actually went parasailing.
The experience has been ripe with constant craziness for the couple; from dancing on the boat to partying with strangers, some of the best moments in the ad movie came naturally. One such part was when Shanta screams while parasailing, ‘How do I come down?’ made us all go ‘awww’.
Dhananjayan shares his experience about the difficulties he faced with wearing shirt and shorts as he is used to wearing veshti (dhoti) and jippa (kurta). He remembers wearing shirt and shorts only as a child.
Though this was not their first stint as actors, but the duo seems excited with the response they have been getting. They are also positive about working in a movie if the role suits their choice. After watching them inspiring so many people through these heartwarming ads, we would love to watch them on the big screen as well.
As trained Bharatnatyam dancers, acting comes naturally to them. The fun and enthusiasm of their characters make us want to hug them but watch them riding bikes and getting tattoos was inspiring. Yes, it is truly said, age is just a number.
