A village court (Gram Kachahri) in Bihar’s Aurangabad district on October 8 decided to ban sale and purchase of all Chinese made goods so as to show support to Indian government and soldiers.
The village court declared all ‘Made in China’ goods ‘an enemy’ as China supports Pakistan.
“We have decided to ban ‘Made in China’ goods and appealed to people not to use any Chinese goods. China is an enemy as it is supporting Pakistan against India,” – Gudiya Devi, Sarpanch, Village court
The village court also passed a provision after a consensus, that all those who are found violating this order would be punished in form of fines.
This is for the first time that one has heard this kind ban being imposed at the village body level where all ‘Made in China’ goods have been banned.
The panchayat area comprises a population of over 10,000 in the district and they are hoping the impact on Chinese goods would be considerable especially now around festivals.
“We should not purchase and use Made In China goods…that would weaken its economy.” – Baban Mehta, village court member.
A majority of these banned goods include toys, fancy lights, gift items, plastic ware and decorative goods.
Rural India is considered a huge market for Chinese products as the products are cheaper compared to those that are produced in India.
