The state government of Bihar, under the leadership of chief minister Nitish Kumar, had imposed a complete ban on the sale and manufacture of alcohol in the state on April 5, 2016. It has been more than a year that the historic decision was announced by the state government but there were indications all this while that the law is not being obeyed by people, including those in police and administration. In May, we had reported that the Bihar police had accused rats of gulping down over 9 lakh liters of seized alcohol, and now, a video of a Bihar police officer dancing inebriated has surfaced on the internet.
In Darbhanga district of Bihar, an orchestra program was organized in Dumri village that falls under Biraul police station of the district. The police were responsible for overseeing the security and peace arrangement at the event but a police officer of the area created a huge fuss there. He tried to step on the stage where music was being played and a female dancer was dancing. The locals of the village present at the event stopped the cop from going on the stage and made him sit in a chair while the cop can be seen pushing the people.
Identified as assistant sub-inspector Satish Kumar, the police officer in the video was confirmed as drunk after he was tested with a breath analyzer machine. Jagran reports that the in-charge of the event, senior superintendent of police, Satyaveer Singh ordered for police proceedings on the drunk cop who was suspended and sent to jail under judicial custody. The incident has created a huge buzz in Bihar police as it is the first time that an officer has been sent to jail in an inebriated condition.
