Kasheeda, a Class V student, at Rajkiya Prathmik Vidyalaya in Araria’s Gokhlapur, wanted a little more khichdi (served under Mid-Day meal programme), but she was allegedly hit.
According to Kasheeda, when she asked for khichdi a second time, she was hit with a serving spoon.
Enraged over her daughter being hit, her father Mohammed Shagir immediately rushed to the school and said, “Sab bachchon ko sarkari khana khane ka haq hai (All children are entitled to the government-run mid-day meal).”
However, he was also allegedly kicked. Hours later, Shagir died.
Someone had also called the police, but no one turned up the whole day.
Bihar schools are unable to meet the demand at just Rs 3.86 per day per child.
Shagir’s wife Rukhsana Khatoon, also claims that her son, Chand Babu, a Class II student, faced a similar situation few months ago. He wanted a little more khichdi, and in return was allegedly thrown off the school’s roof, fracturing his right leg. The incident left him in trauma and he now don’t want to go to school again.
