As per a recent report, an engineer was abducted and forced to be the groom at a marriage ceremony where he was present as a guest. He was made to marry the bride at a gunpoint.
The incident took place in Bihar and came to light when a video surfaced the internet hours after this happened.
The wedding is being called a ‘literal shotgun wedding’, where an engineer named Vinod Kumar who works at the steel plant in the town of Bokaro, was allegedly abducted and coerced into the ‘pakadua vivah’, or forced wedding, in Bihar.
The family and the close ones of Vinod Kumar are in a state of shock and details of the incident have now been revealed to the police authorities. The entire case is being seen as something unusual as even for a relatively resilient state like Bihar. It has come to light that the people who forced the man into the wedding ceremony, are from middle-class, urban, high caste families.
Customarily, forced marriage cases involve lower caste, rural families and the abductee usually is a bride, not a groom. Albeit, such cases are uncommon, grooms are known to be terrorized into marriage so that they are later forced to enter into legal agreements over property or business with the bride’s family. The investigations under the case are being carried out. The video is now being widely circulated over the internet.
