In India, art is still fighting for its freedom.
A horrifying incident took place on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ in Jaipur yesterday. A group of people belonging to a Rajput Group ‘Karni Sena’ stormed the film’s set and created a havoc. They broke the shooting equipments, destructed the set and brutally attacked Bhansali. The director was pulled by his hair and slapped by the protesters.
It is said that the protesters were displeased with the script of ‘Padmavati’ which had intimate scenes between Queen Padmini and Alauddin Khilji. According to them, Bhansali was distorting history which was unacceptable.
The leader of ‘Karni Sena’, Narayan Singh, said,
“We had warned the filmmaker against presenting wrong facts. When we came to know about the shooting, we gathered there and protested,”
Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria stated the anger of the people is justified,
“Anger should not be shown by breaking the law. It’s natural to be angry but people should come to the police who will then investigate. We will now probe and find out who’s at fault and who’s not,”
It is very disheartening to see that without any rigid proof, the mob furiously attacked one of most respected directors of our country. There is no substance to support that whether there were any love scenes between Padmini and Alauddin Khilji.
Seeing this outrage, the director has stopped filming in the city. The Bollywood fraternity stood together against this injustice and condemned such a shameful move.
This is what they had to say:
Am appalled at what has happened with Sanjay Bhansali….this is the time for all us as an industry to stand by our people and fraternity!!

I’m waiting to see how many people are punished for what they’ve done to #SanjayLeelaBhansali & his crew. There’s enough evidence.

How do you take justice in your hands without knowing what the facts are. Shameful! So much for Karni Sena’s reputation. With you Sanjay!
