Here’s a collection of the top films to watch this Christmas. Avoid thinking about all you have to do to get ready for the holiday and instead embrace the joy and cheer of the festive season.

1. Elf

The all-time favorite movie is probably the best. Will Ferrell plays a clownish orphan raised by Santa. His elves come to New York City to locate his biological father. It is fun and surprising! It never fails to raise the Christmas spirits.

2. The Apartment

Billy Wilder’s 1960 comedy is one of the all-time great Christmas movies. No wonders that it won the Academy Awards for Best Picture. The movie is about a single man (Jack Lemmon) who falls in love with his boss’s mistress (Shirley MacClaine).

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This Tim Burton specialty is a masterful work of visual tricks and treats. It gets creepy but that only makes it better. This Christmas, enjoy a skeleton Santa showing up in your room. This is one of the best Christmas movies that you can watch with your family.

4. A Christmas Carol

This superb 1951 feature film is still is the best adaptation of Charles Dickens’ legendary tale. It features the usual Christmas Eve ordeal of nasty miser Ebenezer Scrooge (Alastair Sim), who’s visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.

5. Home Alone

You can never get over this gem by director Chris Columbus and writer John Hughes in which Macaulay Culkin is forgotten by his family and forced to battle a couple of stupid thieves around Christmas.

6. White Christmas

This 1954 musical features Crosby and Danny Kaye as music-act partners who team up with two sisters (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) to help their former military commander save his Vermont lodge.

7. Black Christmas

Bob Clark’s 1974  Black Christmas stars Olivia Hussey, John Saxon, Margot Kidder, and Keir Dullea. This particular Christmas movie has a twist about the gruesome tale of a group of girls who are threatened by a mysterious and psychotic killer.

8. While You Were Sleeping

This is my personal favorite, a love story at Christmas. In While You Were Sleeping, Sandra Bullock saves a man after admiring from afar from some time but ends up falling for the man’s brother. The happy ending will add on to the festive spirit for sure.

9. A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas

This one is an all-night adventure fun set up in the holiday madness. The best of the duo’s Harold and Kumar big-screen outings. the crazy madness starts when John Cho and Kal Penn’s stoner buddies find themselves at odds.
