Launching a blistering attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has become the symbol of terror, death and corruption.
He said Didi had ended the 34-year Left Front rule with several promises but had betrayed the people of West Bengal.
Referring to Saradha chit fund scam, in which several important Trinamool leaders were implicated, he said those involved in it should have been in jail.
“Didi should have been sterner. But instead she had been favouring them,” he said. He also added that while the TMC had fostered chit funds, the Central government had started the PM Jan Dhan Yojana.
The Prime Minister also slammed TMV leaders over Narada’s sting operation and told election rallies at Birpara in North Bengal and Asansol down South that these ‘maa maati manoos’ people were taking money.
Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee over the recent flyover collapse in Kolkata in which 26 people were killed, PM Modi said the flyover had fallen, “not because it was an act of God, but because it was an act of fraud” committed by the building syndicates propped by the ruling outfit.
He also criticised Banerjee for starting a blame game immediately after the collapse of a Kolkata flyover recently instead of trying to save people’s lives.
Hitting out at the politician-building mafia nexus in Bengal, he said the whole polity in Bengal was being controlled by the syndicates that were in turn controlled by the TMC.
“Under the Left Front, we had scientific rigging. Now, under Didi, there is scientific corruption,” he said.
Modi also trained his gun at the Congress-Left Front alliance and said that for decades the Congress had been blaming the Left parties but is now sitting at Left’s foot for the sake of sheer existence. “If it is an issue over principles, then it should be uniform…Kerala mein kushti aur Bengal mein dosti (They are wrestling in Kerala and are friends in Bengal),” he said.
