What Makes Badla A Must Watch?
Bollywood has sort of stopped making nail-biting suspense thrillers, but we hope that after Badla, things do change for better. Badla is definitely the kind of cinematic experience which we all have been waiting to savour for a long time now. It’s crisp, engaging and brilliantly-performed.
Talking about performances, everyone has done their best but, as expected, Amitabh Bachchan steals the show with his mesmerizing act. He is at the top of his game again. As lawyer Badal Singh, he gets into the skin of his character and delivers an outstanding performance. Badla proves that Taapsee Pannu is an actress whose talent needs to be taken even more seriously. She gets an amazing part to play and does complete justice to it. Her character is the surprise element of the film. Amrita Singh also delivers an excellent performance.
Sujoy Ghosh is the master of suspense thrillers. He is perhaps the only Bollywood filmmaker from the current lot who has done a great service to the genre. With Badla, he puts his brilliant skills on display once again. With his strong writing and taut direction, Sujoy Ghosh invites audiences into a world of mystery, a world that you want to inhabit until all the mysteries are solved and things are crystal clear. Ghosh has made a film which works on so many levels.
The movie is quick paced and the whole credit for keeping it so, of course, goes to editor Monisha R. Baldhawa. The background score is simply brilliant. One thing that clearly stands out in Badla is its breathtaking cinematography. Cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhyay has done an amazing job. His cinematography makes Badla a satisfying watch.
Peppered with moments of high tension and suspense, Badla is a must-watch even for people who are not very fond of the genre. The film features top-notch performances from Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu with pinpoint direction from director Sujoy Ghosh. Doing full justice to its genre, Badla keeps you on the edge of your seat from the outset. I am going with 3.5 stars.
