Since the time Pahlaj Nihalani was appointed CBFC chief, he has left no stone unturned in overdoing his duty. Time and again he has some agenda and he knows how to hit the headlines.
The number of censors he has ordered in Indian films is far more than those issued by any other CBFC chief in the past. After India witnessed the cuts he decided to put on ‘Udta Punjab’ and on ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, Pahlaj has been criticized a lot. And now, there is another film which has become the recent victim of Nihalani’s censorship.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s upcoming film ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ didn’t go too well with Nihalani and he ordered 48 cuts in the film. When inquired about the number of cuts, he said, “We are just doing our job”, as per a report. This came from Nihalani after there was news about him stepping down as CBFC chief. However, there has been no update on that front yet. The makers of the film are in a shock after knowing about the number of cuts.
Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag, ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ has remained in controversies so far. Some time back Chitrangada Singh walked out of the film, saying that she was not comfortable with the number of explicit scenes in the film. The filmmakers then roped in Bidita Bag, who is a Bengali actress.
The casting director of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, Sanjay Chouhan, also revealed that if was next to impossible for him to cast a fair actress opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
