Around 3 lakh people performed yoga at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad on June 21, International Yoga Day, and created a Guinness World Record for being the largest yoga session in the world.
Present at the venue, among other political leaders, were BJP president Amit Shah, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, ex-chief minister Anandiben Patel. Several other dignitaries also showed up at the ground including IPS officers, IAS officers and judges of the high court.
People did many yoga poses under the guidance of Baba Ramdev on the third International Yoga Day celebrated all the over the world. The session lasted for an hour and a half after which Baba Ramdev claimed that it had created a Guinness World Record.
Addressing media at the event, Baba Ramdev said,
Today is the most important day for me, as more than three lakh people performed yoga at one place to set a new world record. We have broken the previous world record, which was set in the presence of our PM, by a huge margin.
The exact number of participants at the event will be declared after tabulation of the data.
Thanking the Prime Minister for popularizing Yoga all over the world on a huge scale, Amit Shah, said

Though India was trying hard to make yoga popular across the globe since 2011, we got success after the United Nations accepted Modiji’s proposal in 2014 and declared 21 June as the World Yoga Day. Since then, the popularity of yoga is increasing across the world rapidly.

Prior to this, a similar record for 35,985 people doing yoga together at one place, was registered at Rajpath in Delhi on June 21, 2015 with the Prime Minister also gracing the occasion.
