Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is going all out to promote his upcoming movie “Meri Pyaari Bindu” along with co-star Parineeti Chopra, but even as he does the needful to reach out to his fans to come and watch the film, there is one aspect of promotion that the actor is not fond of – Twitter.
In a written column to DNA, Ayushmaan writes about social media, and how it has now become a “de factor promo handle” for many celebrities.
While writing about the growing trend, Ayushmann mentions how Twitter handles are just an “extensions of a star’s insecurity and self-obsession” and how his own Twitter handle looks selfish and craving for attention.
While he expresses his displeasure about the current state of his Twitter handle, he adds that he misses his old self on Twitter, the person who used to be on Twitter and would often keep the audience engaged in conversation.
To Ayushmann the world of Twitter has become fickle and goes against the concept of equality as having more ‘followers’ makes him superior when it actuality it has no meaning at all.
“Is it like an ego massager for the celebs? A common man can either be a troll or a docile follower. And the word ‘follower’ is just so condescending. It defies the basic need for equality. Self-centered indulgence, pride and lack of shame over arrogance are the new emblems of the twitter world. Our online self is the real self. That’s what we are inside. This is all transient. One day, Twitter will become as redundant and dated as Orkut and my 3.5 million followers will have no value just like roubles of the erstwhile Soviet Union.”
