Dirk Nannes is one of the few international cricketers to have played for two different countries – the Netherlands and Australia. Nannes has also played in the Indian Premier League for Delhi Daredevils, RCB and CSK.

On Wednesday, just before the start of the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and RCB, Nannes tweeted this:

The tweet was directed at Mohammed Azharuddin is appearing in the pre- and post-match IPL shows ahead of the release of a biopic on him.

It triggered a wave of emotions on Twitter, with some Indian cricket fans defending Azhar.

Nannes was not going to back down and a war ensued.

Angry Twitterati continued their onslaught.

But some Twitter users found a funny angle.

Azharuddin was accused of match-fixing. He was found guilty, following which he was banned. The ban was lifted in 2006 by the BCCI. In 2012, a High Court dismissed the ban on Azhar. He contested in 2009 from Moradabad constituency as a Congress party candidate and won. In the 2014 General Elections, he was crushed under the Modi wave like other Congress leaders.
