Cricket teams of India and Pakistan faced off in the final match of the Champions Trophy 2017 on Sunday, June 18. Beating India by 180 runs, Pakistan won the match and registered its first ever victory in the Champions Trophy. As this happened, there were widespread celebrations in Pakistan, which was quite expected.
But along with this, something that was completely startling also happened. India’s loss or, in other words, Pakistan’s victory was celebrated by people of Kashmir and there were several media reports that revealed the fact. For instance, a day after the final match, Outlook India reported that there were celebrations in Kashmir valley over Pakistan’s victory and at some places, it even caused violence and clashes of locals with the security forces.

The official spokesperson of Pakistan’s armed forces, Major General Asif Ghafoor, has, from his official twitter handle, shared a video of locals of Srinagar celebrating the victory of Pakistan’s cricket team in Sunday’s final.

Official spokesperson of Pakistan Armed Forces, Major General Asif Ghafoor Twitter
This tweet is enough to prove that Pakistan has always been greatly interested in what is happening inside the borders of India, especially in Kashmir.
Had the tweet come from a commoner of Pakistan, or an Indian, for that matter, it wouldn’t have been so significant. Or had he tweeted about the commemoration of his country’s victory by its own citizens, it would have been rational. However, the controversial tweet by the official handle of the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations clearly indicates how deeply the Pakistani army is interested in the activities of India, especially Kashmiris.
Apart from proving the fact that the Pakistani Army has maintained access to all that is happening in Indian Kashmir, this video also indicates that the outfit is trying to deliberately ferment tensions in the valley by mocking India’s defeat and bragging about the merriment among people of Kashmir because of this defeat.
Moreover, it shows that Pakistan’s army supports and celebrates the activities in India occupied Kashmir which are aimed at destabilizing India or creating disorder. In such a situation, it wouldn’t be wrong to conclude that the Pakistani Army has adverse intentions with regards to the people of India in general and Kashmiris in particular. The conclusion that terror activity in Kashmir, including those by Indian Kashmiri youth, is incited and supported by the Pakistani Army also does not seem to be a far-fetched one.

In April 2017 as well, a controversial tweet from Major General Ghafoor had surfaced that highlighted the fact that the army in Pakistan can, and does, easily reject action by their Prime Minister. The same was also reported by us. This tweet was severely criticized by the Twitterati, pointing out the stark difference in the functioning and capabilities of the Indian and Pakistani armies. The tweet also clearly pointed out that Pakistan only purports to be a democratic country and is indeed highly influenced, in all aspects, by military personnel and their actions.
Here is the tweet by Major General Ghafoor:
Notification on Dawn Leak is incomplete and not in line with recommendations by the Inquiry Board. Notification is rejected.

Here are some of the most befitting responses to his tweet:
How dare a notification by prime minister is “rejected” by the officer in ISPR.

Not making fun of Pak’s situation. Being an advocate of democracy & rule of law, I simply find the situation sad.https://t.co/6D5uHm4vlY

For whatever it’s worth, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor’s tweet will go down in history. For all the wrong reasons.
