All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has openly declared that he will not say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ (Hail Mother India).

He was speaking in response to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s March 3 call that the youth should be taught to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ to counter the wave of anti-nationalism.

“I won’t utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat,” said Owaisi. He was addressing a public rally in Udgir tehsil of Latur district on Sunday.

The crowd reportedly responded with a round of applause. Owaisi’s argument was that the Constitution of India does not ask anyone to chant the slogan.

Owaisi also exhorted Bhagwat saying, “I don’t chant that slogan. What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahib?”

While some found this amusing, others found it ironical.
