Renowned for its perfumes, Kannauj is now preparing to fight the issue of stone pelting in Kashmir through the power of its fragrances. This will be a major support for a new experiment by the Indian Army to curb the bothersome matter of stone pelting.
Fragrance and Flavor Development Center (FFDC), an autonomous body of the Government of India, under the Ministry of MSME has developed a new stink capsule which emits a strong, unbearable smell. A chemical that spreads stench will be placed in a small capsule which can be fired with the help of tear guns.
The Central Government has claimed that by release of this capsule, it will be possible to control the stone pelting going on in Kashmir. At present, the security forces in Kashmir use pellet guns to stop stone pelters. The use of pellet guns has been a much debated issue, as hundreds of people have been left injured by them. Though, according to the police, the guns are non-lethal.
Shakti Vinay Shukla, principal director of FFDC, has said that these capsules will also emit smoke if fired through tear guns and the odor will be unbearable. It is interesting to note that despite the strong smell these small bombs emit, they do not have any adverse effect on the health of human beings.
These stink bombs or stink capsules will be handed over to the Army only after approval from the Defense Ministry and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). They will soon be tried in a defense laboratory based in Gwalior, permission for which has already been granted by the Defense Ministry.
