Lawmakers of Argentina collectively voted for the legalization of marijuana for medical and scientific purposes. Having done that, the country has joined the league of Columbia, Uruguay and Chile, the only South American countries to have already done so in the past.
In an endeavor to grab business away from the mafia group, Argentina’s neighbor, Uruguay, has even legalized smoking of the drug.
Lawmakers gave the final green light this Wednesday. After the approval, federal government can now grow marijuana for scientific research and therapeutic objectives.
The President of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, is yet to sign the bill which will then be followed as a law. Ban on import of cannabis oil will also be lifted consequent to the enactment of the law allowing Argentines to make prescribed purchases.
