Actress and film producer Anushka Sharma is a prominent figure in Bollywood. The 30-yr-old originally hails from Ayodhya but spent most of her formative years in Bangalore. The actress wed famous Indian cricketer Virat Kohli on December 11, 2017. The two were together for years before tying the knot and were even in a live-in relationship. Ideally, one might expect a couple to get some breathing space post-marriage. But it seems like this concept is non-existent in Indian society.
That’s because soon after tying the knot, the news of Anushka’s pregnancy began doing the rounds. People were speculating and spinning pregnancy news out of thin air. There have many instances when this news has gone super intense.
Once again the news of the actress’s potential pregnancy is doing the rounds. But this time, Anushka Sharma finally broke her silence on the matter. While promoting her upcoming movie Zero, Anushka got an opportunity to shut such news down once and for all.
Anushka Sharma reportedly said this about pregnancy rumors:
“That (spreading rumors) is something people will do anyway. It’s completely unnecessary and silly as you ultimately can’t hide such a thing. You can hide a marriage but not pregnancy.”
She further expressed her dismay over how female actors have it tough in our society. And how she doesn’t pay attention to all this anymore. She said:
“I feel every female actor goes through it, so people marry you off even before you are hitched and make you a mother before you are pregnant. I don’t pay attention to it, and just laugh these things off since I find them hilarious. When I read about such stuff, I think, ‘where do such absurd things come from?’ Right now, I’m literally working round-the-clock.”
Well, my heart goes out to the actress. And also to every woman in the Indian subcontinent who bears the burden of our societal expectations.
