Anurag Kashyap Shuts Rumors, Brings Strong Proof That ‘Newton’ Is NOT COPIED

Updated on 27 September, 2017 at 7:59 pm By

Rajkummar Rao’s latest film ‘Newton’ left each and every one of us proud after making an official entry to the Oscars 2018. Amit Masurkar’s dark-satirical comedy is being loved by many. Where the movie is being lauded by critics for its outstanding storyline, there are people who are talking about its resemblance to an Iranian film ‘Secret Ballot’. There are people who have watched the two movies and are saying that ‘Newton’ has uncanny similarities to ‘Secret Ballot’ which was released in 2001.

However, the director of the film, Amit Masurkar has completely denied the speculations saying that ‘Newton’ is neither inspired nor a copy of ‘Secret Ballot.

In our last update about the movie, we reported that Anurag Kashyap has supported ‘Newton’ and has slammed people for calling it a copy.

In a series of tweets, Anurag stood with ‘Newton’ shutting down the rumors about its resemblance to the Iranian movie.

Not just this, Anurag Kashyap, moving a step forward has now brought proof to prove his point. He reached out to Marco Muller, the producer of ‘Secret Ballot’ and has got it confirmed from him that ‘Newton’ is not at all a copy of his film ‘Secret Ballot’.

Sharing the information in his latest Facebook post, this is what Anurag wrote,

With over-enthusiastic media and our cinephiles with overactive imagination .. who called ‘Newton’ a copy of ‘Secret Ballot’ ..here is what the producer of ‘Secret Ballot’ said to me after watching Newton. I requested the link of ‘Newton’ from its director and send it to Marco Muller, the producer. And he wrote back “A pretty decent film, definitely no rip off from our Secret Ballot (even if the general concept is the same)” and then I asked him if I can share his response on Social Media? He replied,”please feel free as you see fit, there is not even a hint of plagiarisation. .. below is the screen shot..

Here’s is the screenshot that Anurag has attached with his post,

And we think it is enough for people to understand that the two movies are coincidentally similar. But there is definitely a lot more that should encourage people to watch the film.
