Songs like “Ek Garam Chai Ki Pyaali Ho” bring to our minds the name of Anu Malik. The composer who has always been famous for his unique tunes is now not as much on the scene because of the increased competition in the field. But Anu Malik is one of those celebrities who are very blunt. He has never thought of mincing words while expressing his views and opinions. Remember ‘Indian Idol’ audition days? We haven’t heard much from Anu Malik all these years but suddenly the singer-composer is back the news claiming that he has not been given credits for a song he composed.
Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal Again’ left us nostalgic when we heard the romantic “Neend Churai” remix. The song was originally composed by Anu Malik for the movie ‘Ishq’. It was recreated for ‘Golmaal Again’ by Malik’s nephew Amaal.
As per Bombay Times, Anu Malik is pretty miffed about not being given the credits:
“If you want to give a twist to a song, I have no problem, but don’t forget to mention the original composer’s name.”
He further added:
“I wish Amaal all the best, but it will always be an Anu Malik tune. The younger generation, which has never heard that song, will think this is the original composer. It is fine to recreate, but don’t forget to credit the original composers.”
He demanded that anyone making a remake must have the “courtesy” to call the original composer informing about the remix or at least give credit.
“Thankfully, people know who the composer is, so it is a great feeling.”
Responding to the allegations, Amaal told DNA:
“We didn’t need to take his permission, actually. We took the rights from them. We had taken the rights of the original song (“Sending All My Love” by Linear) on which the Neend Churayi tune is based. However, I’d have liked to take my uncle’s permission. That seemed like the right thing to do. We even wanted him to sing the remix. It would have been nice nostalgic touch. But he wouldn’t entertain my calls. So I gave up.”
Looks like both uncle and the nephew aren’t much happy with each other. Do you think that Anu Malik should have been given the credits? Do share your views in the comments.
