A US gun manufacturer has designed what it calls ‘an anti-terrorist gun’. Florida-based Spike’s Tactical unveiled an assault rifle that they claim will “never be used by any Muslim terrorist”.
What is the basis of their claim, you ask. Because imprinted on the gun is a verse from The Bible.
The verse, which is printed just above the right side of the magazine holder, is Psalm 144:1.
“Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.”
Spike’s Tactical spokesperson Ben Thomas, a former Navy SEAL, told Orlando Sentinel:
“Right now and as it has been for quite some time, one of the biggest threats in the world is and remains Islamic terrorism. We wanted to make sure we built a weapon that would never be able to be used by Muslim terrorists to kill innocent people or advance their radical agenda.”
But the manufacturers wanted more than just a holy verse to ‘safeguard’ the assault rifle from falling into the ‘wrong hands’. So they carved a Crusader cross on the other side of the magazine holder.
The rifle, which is from the AR-15 family, is called ‘Crusader’. Priced at $1395, it shoots standard .223 or 5.56 ammunition, but can be modified to shoot 300 AAC Blackout ammunition by simply changing the barrel.
On the reverse side of the safety selector are the Latin translations of those words, Pax Pacis, Bellum, and Deus Vult.
Hasan Shibly, executive director of the Florida branch of The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), protested against the firearm: “Is it designed for Christian terrorists?”
He also drew attention to the widespread gun violence in US. “We need to have a conversation on gun violence. There has been utter silence from gun manufacturers. It’s time for them to stop trying to make a buck on this,” he said.
The CAIR-Florida said:
Americans have tragically witnessed over 250 mass killings in 2015 alone, which amounts to more than one per each day. Only one of those killings involved a self-proclaimed Muslim. Sadly, this manufacturer’s fancy new gun won’t do anything to stop the real threat in America: the escalating problem of gun violence.
In a strongly-worded criticism titled ‘Some local idiots designed a ‘terrorist-proof’ bigot rifle’, Colin Wolf of Orlando Weekly writes that the majority of shootings in the US have nothing to do with Muslims, let alone Islamic extremism.
She says that the rifle is a “marketing ploy designed for scared-shitless idiots who legitimately think a ‘Muslim terrorist’ might find a way into their gun stash”.
