The debate around Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming magnum opus Padmavati (starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji) seems to have reached a fever pitch as it inches closer to its December 1 release.

Deepika Padukone plays Rani Padmavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. Twitter
Bhansali has been accused of distorting facts in his film by members of Karni Sena who have called for a nation wide bandh on the day of its release. One Thakur Abhishek Som from a little-known Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Yuva Mahasabha has even offered a bounty of Rs 5 crore on the head Bhansali. They also said that if the movie is allowed to release, they will cut off Padukone’s nose like Lakshman had cut Surpanakha’s nose in the Ramayana. A big reason for the ongoing debate is also because of rumours suggesting a romantic dream sequence between the two characters. Amid all this controversy, the Central Board of Film Certification has returned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s application citing “technical deficiencies” in it, likely delaying its release.

During such a heated discussion over Padmavati, India Today’s anchor Anjana Om Kashyap is seen talking with Rohit Sardana, who recently joined Aaj Tak.
During the debate Kashyap gives an illogical argument saying that the present day female descendants of Rani Padmavati themselves speak in English, have modern lifestyles, so they hardly have any moral right to give suggestions on the right portrayal of Rani Padmavati in the film.
Very poor argument by Anjana Om Kashyap.

However, Kashyap’s reasoning has got Twitterati fuming:
Sonam, you speak English and you have a reasonably Modern lifestyle sitting your a$$ on twitter all day. Are you one of the descendants as well? Is your hatred hereditary?

Why @anjanaomkashyap is unable to consider English as just another language? If Rajput speak in English, they can’t be a real Rajput?😂

very poor reasoning, not enough to validate the cause of tampering with historical facts.

In the name of artistic expression and freedom of speech, leftist historians have reduced Rani Padmavati to a mythical character when there are records – historical and physical (held by ASI), which prove to the contrary..
