If you are thinking that Israel has become the mighty country that it is today because of sheer hard work and US President Donald Trump hurried to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel because of his impulsive behavior, you might be in for surprises here.
Israel, though it had come to existence only in the year 1948, always had but enormously influenced cultures and conflicts and has remained truly the centerpiece of a large part of human civilization across continents for thousands of years.
The tiny country also has a very interesting and often strange history, full of incredible events and emergence of numerous prophets who continue to impact the modern Israel though they existed thousands of years ago through their mind-boggling prophecies accumulated in the holy book of Jews ‘Torah’ which also comprise largely ‘The Old Testament’ of Christian Bible. These prophecies are believed to be passed down directly by God and witnessing their precise accuracy, there should not be any suspicion that God has been directing the destiny of this country from ages for certain unknown reasons.
Here are 5 ancient Jewish prophecies fulfilled through modern day Israel that proves God is real and is peculiarly interested in Israel.
1. The remarkably mathematically accurate 2500 years old prophecy about Israel’s return fulfilled in 1948.
… Then take an iron pan, place it as an iron wall between you and the city and turn your face toward it. It will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel. “Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the house of Israel upon yourself. You are to bear their sin for the number of days you lie on your side. I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the house of Israel. “After you have finished this, lie down again, this time on your right side, and bear the sin of the house of Judah. I have assigned you 40 days, a day for each year.
This was revealed through Prophet Ezekiel in 6th century BC and can be found in the book of Ezekiel in The Old Testament. A thing to remember here is that both Israel and Judah in the olden times constituted the nation of Israel. So, if 390 and 40 is added, the total comes to 430 days or 430 years of punishment for Israel for the sins of the Jews. It is believed that Babylon took the complete control over Israel around 605 BC and 606 BC, which also marks the beginning of the prophecy. In another prophecy found in the book of Jeremiah, it was revealed that the Jews would but return to Jerusalem after 70 years serving under Babylon with a condition that if Israelis didn’t repent of their sins, their period of punishment would be multiplied by seven times. Exactly after 70 years in the year 536 BC, Cyrus the Great freed the Jews.
Subtracting 70 from 430, it comes to 360 years. Though there isn’t any mention in the Torah whether Israel repented for their sins or not, if it is assumed that they hadn’t, then the period of punishment becomes (360 X 7) 2,520 years. Since the Jews followed a lunar calendar with 360 days, the total number of days comes to 9,07,200 days. Converting the number of days in solar calendar used today with 365 days and 6 hours in a year, the number of days comes to 2,483 years. From 2,483 years, if 536 years before the birth of Christ is subtracted, the number comes to 1947, but there is no 0 BC or 0 AD, so one more year needs to be added to 1947, making it a total of 1948 years. Israel came into existence exactly in the year 1948 when nobody thought it was even possible, marking the end of the punishment period.
2. The exceptional might of the Israeli army.
Leviticus 26:3, 7-8
“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, … You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.”
Prophesied in the book of Leviticus 26:3, 7-8, around 1400 BC believed to be written by Moses, it said that if Israel obeys God, the Israelis would become so powerful that five Israeli would be able to chase away hundred enemies and a hundred Israelis would be able to defeat ten thousand enemies because God would be with them.
Hours after Israel came into existence in the year 1948, five countries i.e., Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon attacked the not even a day old country on three fronts. The combined population of the countries at that time was about 20 million while there were only about one million Jews, still they chased away the Arab countries and expanded the size of Israel by 50%.
Similar things happened in 1967 and 1973 when Israel was attacked again and again by enemy countries in groups, backed by more countries, but each time Israel defeated them.
Despite of their tiny number, Israeli army today is regarded as one of the most powerful in the world, fulfilling the prophecy.
3. The implausible prosperity of Israel.
I will increase the number of men and animals upon you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
In the book of Ezekiel, written about 2600 years ago, Ezekiel prophesied about a new Israel that would be more prosperous than it was ever in the past. It is to be noted here that during the time of Ezekiel, Israel’s glory days were already past and it was a time of international upheaval and believing in something like this was impossible. In the centuries to come, Israel was completely uprooted from the face of the Earth due to consecutive invasions of Assyrians, Babylonians and Romans.
In another prophecy made around 700 BC and found in the book of Isaiah, it was declared that God would turn the wastelands of Israel into a land of abundant greenery and productivity.
Before Israel came into existence in the year 1948, the land was a neglected one and was indeed sort of a wasteland and desert. But today, things have taken an unbelievable turn. Israel in the last 70 years has transformed itself from one of the poorest places to one of the most developed and richest countries in the world. It has developed some of the most innovative ways of doing farming and has been able to grow crops in the deserts and that too more efficiently and more productively than any other country with better lands.
4. Jerusalem: The epicentre of conflicts.
“I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.
No other city in the world is the centre of so much of controversy as Jerusalem is. Israel and Palestine both regard it as their capital according to their ancient roots and a place of incredible religious significance. It is also a site of pilgrimage for Christians.
As recently as December 2017, the entire world was thrown into a difficult spot when US President Donald Trump decided to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Even countries that always have had supported US this time decided to not align with its decision, causing an enormous rejection of the idea in the United Nations but US anyway did what it wanted.
Astounding part of the story is this situation of Jerusalem was predicted about 2500 years ago by Prophet Zechariah in a prophecy that said that Jerusalem would eventually become a cup of trembling for all people around it and all the people of the world would be gathered against Jerusalem but the city would prevail.
Though Donald Trump has been one of the most unpopular presidents of the United States yet, his Israel policy is but revered by many Americans and especially the evangelical Christians because they see Israelis as God’s chosen people and believe in one of the oldest prophecies in the Bible that those who would bless Israel would be blessed by God and those who curse Israel would be cursed found in the book of Genesis.
5. The return of the Jews to their homeland.
…and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land. I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.
For more than two thousand years, Jews, after losing their homeland i.e., ancient Israel, had lived their lives scattered all over the world and this prophecy by Prophet Ezekiel explicitly states that the Jews would be gathered together in their own land as one nation and there would be one king over them.
The time when this prophecy was made, Israel was already divided into two regions Judah and Israel and each region had their own kings and this must had been a shocker for many Jews at that time. Nevertheless, his prophecy was eventually fulfilled in 1948 when Israel was re-established as one state and a democratic form of government was chosen with one head of the state.
Since its formation 70 years ago, Jews have been returning to their ancient land as was prophesied from different countries every year like USA, Russia, France, Australia, India etc. and taking permanent citizenships. The population of the country has thereby increased significantly and today it is home to more than 7 million Jews.
