Amnesty International Targets Uttar Pradesh Govt Over Encounters, State Police Gave A Befitting Reply

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is in full action mode and as per official data, there have been more than 1100 police encounters in the state in the last 10 months. These shootouts have resulted in the arrest of 2744 history-sheeters, death of 34 criminals, and left 265 injured. On the other hand, four police personnel have been killed and 247 injured in these 10 months.

Few days back, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had asserted that there was no place for lumpen elements and lawlessness in the state. He also pointed out his government is committed to provide security to all citizens of the state and that it will not let such people play with law. Following this, the police promptly launched ‘Operation Clean’ and took no time in beginning to deal with the wanted men.

However, taking on UP government over the encounters in the state, the curator handling Amnesty International India’s twitter account quoted a National Human Rights Commission notice, and posted:

In the recent past, UP police have conducted encounters in Muzaffarnagar, Gorakhpur, Bulandshahr, Shamli, Hapur, Meerut, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Kanpur and Lucknow. During the operation, the police recovered firearms, cash and cars most of which was robbed by the criminals.
