Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra will be new brand ambassadors of ‘Incredible India’ campaign, according to media reports.
They will be replacing the actor Amir Khan, who was the brand ambassador of this campaign earlier.
The announcement on the same is likely to be made by next week.
Incredible IndiaThe campaign is aimed to market the country to tourists abroad. Bachchan, 73, Bollywood veteran was also the brand ambassador of Gujarat Tourism.
His name was suggested by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The two actors were selected after the government decided to not to renew the contract of actor Aamir Khan, who have spoken against the growing intolerance in the country in past.
He had promoted Indian tourism for a decade as the brand ambassador.
Aamir Khan, who has given super-hit movies like Rangeela, Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, Mangal Pandey, Rang De Basanti, said that he respects the decision of the government.
He said that it was government’s right to decide whether they need a brand ambassador for any campaign or not, and who would it be.
A number of multi-disciplinary icons, including famous sports personalities, were shortlisted by the tourism ministry to be the face of the ‘Incredible India’ campaign.
Suggestions were being considered to include a female personality as the mascot for the “Atithi Devo Bhava’ series which is the part of ‘Incredible India’ campaign to woo the foreign tourists.
Akshay Kumar’s name was also being in news for the new brand ambassador, and the superstar had said he would love to take the position.
