Fresh violence in Anantnag led to the suspension of the Amarnath Yatra once again. The Amarnath Yatra was suspended following the killing of Wani but was resumed on Monday.

On Wednesday, the death toll in clashes following the killing of Burhan Wani touched 36 with a youth succumbing to his injuries at Harnag village.

Wednesday was the fifth straight day of curfew.

According to reports, fresh protests erupted in areas of south Kashmir including Bijbehara, with people throwing stones on police and CRPF personnel.

ANI reports that the pilgrims have been halted at Bhagwati Nagar Yatra base camp.

While separatist leaders have called for the ongoing shutdown to be extended by two more days, J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti called for restraint.

“We have to jointly safeguard our state and our people from further bloodshed and destruction,” she said.

She had also assured that action will be taken against security personnel for using ‘excessive force’.
