Casting couch is much like that elephant in the room that no one wants to recognize. Despite being a burning topic, most of the veteran actors prefer to maintain a distance from this issue. Once in a while, there are those who don’t shy away from raising their voice against this malicious practice. Previously actors like Richa Chadha, Radhika Apte, Kalki Koechlin, and Swara Bhaskar opened up about the existence of this issue. Now, Alia Bhatt joins them.
Alia is currently riding high on the success after her film ‘Raazi’ made it big in the box office. Following that, she is giving interviews and during one of which she was asked about casting couch.
The actress admitted that she never faced it but acknowledges its existence in Bollywood. She further added there are many who go through this issue. People often exploit those in need in name of work. This is what she said:
“I know and do understand that at times, many boys and girls have to go through bad situations in order to be able to fetch some work. Everyone has to face their own battle of struggle in order to be able to get work in this industry. And during their struggle, some people could use the strugglers for their benefit.”
She further added that this is such an issue that is not only confined to Bollywood but plaguing film industry everywhere.
The ‘Raazi’ actress further added that the aspiring actors who have faced this need to speak up and take help of police. In her own words:
“They should always believe in themselves. However, if at all they are confronted with this bad moment they need to immediately inform their parents. And thereafter go to the police.”
Isn’t about time for more actors from Bollywood to come forward and accept the existence of this spiteful practice?
