Political leaders are not only the representatives, but also role models for the public who votes in their favor and brings them to power. But once politicians gain sufficient power and influence, many of them do not hesitate in misusing it. A recent incident of exploitation of this political power and muscle has come from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
A video of Akhilesh Yadav’s huge convoy of 175 vehicles passing the toll plaza at Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, without paying toll tax has come to light. This video of former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh openly scorning the law and crossing the toll for not one but 175 vehicles has created a great buzz in the media.
The vehicles in the convoy included cars as well as two-wheelers that carried Samajwadi Party flags and crossed the toll without stopping, as can be seen in the video. This has entailed a loss of around Rs. 17,000 for the government.
The manager of the toll plaza has also asserted that Akhilesh Yadav’s convoy crossed the toll without paying any taxes. Akhilesh Yadav, however, cannot be seen in the video, but it is being claimed that he was sitting in one of the cars in the convoy.

According to the Toll Tax Policy, the payment of toll tax is exempted for the chief minister in power but not for former chief ministers, therefore, Akhilesh Yadav not paying the tax is a clear abuse of power and evasion of law. The other cars that accompanied Yadav in his convoy were traveling with him to participate in the ‘Desh Bachao-Desh Banao Yatra’.
