Aizawl FC on April 30th created history after they won their first I-League title.
The team that was relegated last season and only got reinstated by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) this season, had a fairytale journey to the top, a journey which was full of hardships and which continues to be a fight.

But even as the team fight to be included in the proposed top league merger of ISL and I-League, their fans won millions of hearts across the world, by their small gesture of kindness which not only teaches everyone their civic duty but will also in a way promote PM Modi’s “Swachh Bharat Mission.”
The fans, after the Aizawl FC-Shillong Lajong match ended at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, went about collecting and disposing of the trash that was left behind by some 23,000 spectators.
One must note that these fans were not locals but visitors and consisted majority people from Mizoram who had come to the stadium just to see their team play.
Their gesture, fortunately, didn’t go unnoticed and Meghalaya’s former deputy chief minister RG Lyngdoh sent out his vote of thanks to them.
Soon Shillong-based retired IAS officer Toki Blah too added his appreciation and said,
“Please allow me to join in commending the civic spirited fans of Aizawl FC. Thank you for cleaning. Future of Mizoram lies in safe hands.”
The gesture soon went viral on Twitter with many taking up the mico-blogging site to acknowledge the fans’ effort and “Salute!” it.
Hats off Aizawl FC Fans, you are truly and inspiration to many sports farns around the world.
