Tamil Nadu’s ruling party AIADMK went on a statewide day-long hunger strike on April 3, 2018, to “condemn the Centre,” for not setting up Cauvery Management Board (CMB) despite the orders from Supreme Court.
Probably, following the rules of office hours, they kept the hunger strike from 9 am to 6 pm. However, with the recently resurfaced pictures, it seems that they forgot the basic rule of a hunger strike, not to eat. The pictures, that went viral, shows the party members dressed in white enjoying Biryani leisurely. Shot in Vellore and Pudukottai, the images certainly expose the “sincerity” of the workers towards the cause.
The protest was launched by Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam in Chennai. A report states that entire cabinet of the AIADMK took part in the strike across different districts in Tamil Nadu.
Grabbing the opportunity, TKS Elangovan, an MP of the opposition party DMK said:
“The hunger strike was just a show off by AIADMK to the people of Tamil Nadu. The state government has failed to impress upon the Centre to form the CMB as per SC order.”
AIADMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP A. Navaneethakrishnan dismissed the allegation. He said:
“It was a mischievous prank played by someone, AIADMK cadres and leaders observed total hunger strike without taking even a drop of water,”
True or not, the political parties have always been the greatest source of entertainment in our country. Won’t you agree?
