Sonu Nigam’s Old ‘Azaan’ Tweets Trends On Social Media – Adnan Sami Comes Out In His Support

Updated on 8 June, 2020 at 5:12 pm By

A tweet posted by Sonu Nigam three years ago in 2017 has suddenly resurfaced on social media drawing online fire. What’s even more interesting is that Sonu Nigam had deleted his Twitter account way back after that tweet created controversy in 2017. Singer Adnan Sami extended his support to his colleague and dear friend Sonu Nigam who is now facing renewed calls for a boycott after his 2017 tweet has re-surfaced online and urged everyone to leave him alone.

“As far as Sonu Nigam is concerned, forget about his singing which is beautiful; he is a true brother who has always been by my side & loved me like my own. I know, for a fact, personally, that he respects all faiths,” said Sami on Twitter, along with adding the hashtag #WithYouSonuNigam.

Usually away from controversies, Nigam’s tweet that was posted three years ago about morning prayers on loudspeakers disturbing his sleep in India had made the singer trend on social media for all the wrong reasons. The tweet re-surfaced again and several Twitter users have tagged the Dubai Police to take action against the singer. Sonu Nigam is currently in Dubai and has not been able to return to India due to the lockdown.

The truth ignored by many netizens is that Sonu Nigam had deleted his Twitter account long ago after facing massive trolling over tweet comments in 2017. He had criticized the ‘azaan’ back then. Nigam has never been back on Twitter and only has an Instagram account now.

Sonu Nigam on many occasions has categorically made it clear that he isn’t against any religion and is only against a forced display of religion.

A lot of celebrities and prominent people of the society have come out in his support including BJP supporter Priti Gandhi who tweeted to her 426.4k followers that there was no need for Nigam to de-activate his Twitter account over the hate that he has received.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri was seen tweeting his support and reminded other netizens that Nigam’s music has healed many hearts. Singer Adnan Sami too was seen tweeting a heartfelt statement showing his solidarity with Sonu Nigam.
