While a lot of gays and lesbians have come out of the closet, homosexuality is still a taboo in Bollywood as a subject. Bollywood influences our country’s social setup (be it positive or negative). It’s one cinema which breaths into people like a living parasite, therefore, a gay subject is hardly ever discussed openly. However, ace filmmaker Karan Johar doesn’t believe in shying away from it.
The number one plight is when Indian parents marry their gay son off to a woman! That’s when KJo comes in the picture. After Koffee with Karan, the ace filmmaker Karan Johar is back as a relationship expert post radio show Calling Karan, which he hosts on 104.8 Ishq FM.
Karan speaks with several celebrity guest callers like Kareena Kapoor, who took parenting advice in Calling Karan Season 2:
In Calling Karan, he also talks to other distressed callers and gives tips on how to how to make amends and what to do during engagement or marriage period.
Often, his subjects are mostly about love and people who find themselves in a precarious situation because of it.
This time he encountered a caller, Samrat, a 28-year-old, who called Karan Johar on his radio chat show, Calling Karan, to discuss him being gay.
It wasn’t just about being gay, Samrat had the typical issue – his parents got him married off to a woman when he was 27, and his wife wasn’t aware of his preference.
Obviously, Samrat’s woes are not just limited to his sexuality but the fact that he can’t disclose it to his parents or wife with the fear of their reactions.
During his conversation in Calling Karan, he told KJo that he’s attracted to a lot of guys at the workplace but can’t initiate a conversation as he’s married!
When ace filmmaker Karan Johar got to know of Samrat’s tricky situation, he told him to “confess” to his wife. The ace filmmaker also gave some more precious words of wisdom after learning of this gay man’s predicament.
