Love isn’t complicated… people are! With this tagline, Anurag Kashyap brought a complicated story of love and relationships. Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, and Vicky Kaushal in the lead, the film Manmarziyaan hit the silver screen this weekend. While it is being considered that Manmarziyaan is Junior Bachchan’s comeback film at the box-office after a gap of two years, there were quite some expectations from AB’s role as a turbaned Punjabi munda in the film.

However, it appears like he has failed to live up to the expectations of the audience. As sad as it is, in Manmarziyaan, Abhishek Bachchan returns to do what he does the best – play the good boy who loves his girl and can do anything for her happiness. From films like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna to Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Junior Bachchan has under-performed in many to a great extent.

Similarly, in the film Manmarziyaan too, Abhishek fails to impress in the presence of an extremely talented lot including Taapsee and Vicky Kaushal. Reportedly, while Anurag Kashyap tailored the film to be a love triangle between Taapsee, Abhishek and Vicky Kaushal, it was all and all a Taapsee Pannu show.

Looking at some of Abhishek’s praiseworthy performances including Delhi-6, Bluffmaster, and Guru, he has brought different characterizations in each of these roles. However, in all of these films, he has played roles where he had to escape his original persona and add a dash of seriousness in the roles. Apparently, this is what happened in Manmarziyaan too. While he played the role of a loving husband, he failed to shine in the presence of his wife and her lover in the film.

In fact, the Anurag Kashyap directorial had a slow start on the opening day with a collection of Rs 3.52 crore at the Indian box-office in spite of the fact that it witnessed a reasonable growth of 45 percent. And during the weekend, the film could only mint around Rs 5.11 crore. The total collection during the first weekend closed to merely Rs 15 crore.

Well, netizens have reviewed AB’s performances in the film and given their reviews. Have a read at some of the Twitter responses here:
