In a latest twist in Malerkotla’s Quran desecration case, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Naresh Yadav has been accused of being the mastermind.
Yadav, who is AAP’s MLA in Delhi’s Mehrauli area, has vehemently denied the charges and called it a political vendetta.
But Punjab Police claim that they have they have solid evidence to link Yadav with the three men that were arrested in the case.
Three people arrested in the case – Vijay Kumar, Gaurav and the latter’s father Nand Kishore – have claimed that Yadav was the “mastermind” behind the desecration.
They claimed that Yadav had offered to pay Vijay Kumar Rs.1 crore for doing the job.
Yadav denied knowing anyone named Vijay Kumar, and said he had no involvement in the incident.
On June 25, torn pages of the Quran was found in Punjab’s Malerkotla area which led to a mob attack outside a local MLA’s house.
Police registered an FIR naming Yadav and are set to question him soon.
Yadav meanwhile has claimed it is an political conspiracy to diminish AAP’s poll prospects in the upcoming state elections in Punjab.
