After Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s exit as the brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign, online retailer Snapdeal has decided to not renew its contract with the actor.
It is speculated that the move comes in the wake of actor’s comments on the intolerance issue last year which triggered a major uproar in the nation.
The Bollywood actor had said that his wife was scared of living in the country and suggested moving out due to growing intolerance.
Khan, who was the face of ‘Dil Ki Deal’ campaigns in print, digital and television medium, had one-year endorsement contract which will end later this month.
A Snapdeal executive said the contract was extendable by a year but the company decided against it.
It looks like that Snapdeal won’t have any other celebrity. The company has refocused its plans and now wants to enhance categories and encourage buyers to shop through its FreeCharge wallet.
However, advertising and marketing executives have slammed the move saying it is a bit harsh.
Prathap Suthan, managing partner of Bang In The Middle, said, “I think the brand is being harsh on its brand ambassador. While it is good to go with the popular, the brand completely ignored the goodness that the actor is known for… It could have shown great character if it had stood by Khan.”
