Aamir Khan is one actor in Bollywood who is known for getting into the skin of every character that he plays. Whether it is about going through an intense physical transformation or nailing a new dialect, Aamir is indeed the Indian version of Robert Di Niro.
If we talk about his roles, the character of Mangal Pandey was one role he perfected. For this particular role, he grew his hair and moustache and even learnt the dialect which was essential for his portrayal of the lead character. For this role, Aamir got praise from all parts of the country.
However, not many people know that the ‘PK’ actor was not the only and first choice for this period drama! In the year 1995, the film was started with a different title (Kissa Kartoos), and actors Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala were cast in the lead roles.

However, the actor later got arrested and the film was shelved.
In the year 2004, the film was picked up again and the shooting started. This time it was named ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’. The film had a stunning cast including Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Ameesha Patel and Kirron Kher.
It however, landed in an unusual controversy as it featured a relationship between Mangal Pandey and a prostitute. Though, the film was received positively and did quite a good business at the box office.
Though Aamir gave his heart and soul to the film, Sanjay Dutt would have also done justice to the film. Sanjay Dutt is currently having six projects in his kitty and is currently too occupied in his work.
