Giving Aadhar Card more power, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on February 17 announced that from now on College and University students must have an Aadhar card in order to get Central Sector Scholarship Scheme.
They also added that in order to avail the scheme, the students needs to undergo Aadhar authentication or have an Aadhar number.
Further, students who are already receiving these scholarships, but don’t have an Aadhar number, now must apply for the same by June 30, 2017, in order to continue receiving their scholarship.
Though, looking at the fact that it might not be easy for everyone in the country to get an Aadhar Card, the rule has thus been relaxed for students of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and Meghalaya.
Just months before a similar regulation was passed, in which Aadhar card was made mandatory for candidates who are applying for NEET 2017 examination.
According to PTI, the move has been introduced in order to allow the ministry to distribute scholarship benefits to the beneficiaries in a transparent and smooth manner without anyone else being able to misuse these benefits.
This will also remove the compulsion to submit multiple documents while applying for a scholarship.
Till a student gets his/her Aadhar card, they can also apply for the scholarship using their Aadhar Enrolment ID slip, Aadhar enrolment application, Voter identity card, PAN card etc.
