The evergreen entertainer of the Bollywood industry, Govinda and his enigma can hardly be missed, be it in form of the characters he plays in his movies or the person he actually is. There was an era when he did back to back movies and all were huge success on the silver screen namely the ‘No. 1’ series with his famous director-partner David Dhawan. With today’s movies demanding different story-line we will soon see him playing roles different from the ones he is known for.
We bring to you some of his movies which not only gave him the tag of the ‘Comic Actor’ but also entertained the viewers to the core.
7. Partner (2007)
This romantic comedy starring Govinda and Salman was a box office success after Govinda’s encounter with a series of flop movies. Made on the story-line of the Hollywood movie Hitch, this movie had Salman as the Love Guru who teaches the much in love Govinda the tactics to impress his love interest played by Katrina Kaif. This movie was equally entertaining than the English version and has some of the most peppy songs that will lighten one’s mood further.
6. Bhagam Bhag (2006)
This comedy murder mystery had Govinda and Akshay Kumar in lead roles. The story revolves around a theatrical troupe where Govinda and Akshay participate and how their envy towards each other lands them into trouble after trouble. How they along with Paresh Rawal, the owner of the troupe, end up into comedy of errors and terrors is what makes this movie a treat to watch.
5. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998)
Such was Govinda’s impact on the box office that even Amitabh Bachchan had to take his support to revive his ‘then’ dying career. This movie was a double dhamaka with the lead actors playing double role, with one duo playing police officers and the other duo playing thugs. The mish-mash was quite a laugh riot.
4. Deewana Mastana (1997)
3. Saajan Chale Sasural (1996)
The movie had Tabu and Karishma Kapoor as Govinda’s leading ladies. The story takes a funny turn when the villager Govinda who has a wife played by Karishma, goes to the city to make a career in music, has to marry the daughter of his boss, under the pretext that his wife had died in a flood. Then starts the juggling between two wives and hilarious incidents take place as a result of this.
2. Coolie No. 1 (1995)
Yet another comedy film of the famous duo Govinda and Karishma, Coolie No. 1, was one of the first successful movie of Karishma Kapoor. The movie revolves around how Govinda along with Sadashiv Amrapurkar dupe Kader Khan of being a rich family and try to impress him to marry one of his daughters. How they live upto this deception makes this movie interesting and entertaining.
1. Raja Babu (1994)
The movie revolved around the rustic, Govinda, who lacks the urban etiquette. His friend Nandu, played by Shakti Kapoor, always stand by his side and is another funny character to watch out for. Things take a turn when Govinda falls for the educated Karishma Kapoor who rejects him on finding out that he is not the urbane man she aspires to marry. The story takes many twists and turns, just like any usual Hindi movie plot, but it is entertaining because of the impeccable comic timing of Govinda.
