6. Karan Arjun
This was the second time that the couple came together on the big screen and the audiences were appreciating their romantic songs and scenes with a positive response. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, Karan Arjun was released on 13 January 1995 and was distributed by Eros Entertainment. Shahrukh plays the role of a stable manager where a rich girl Kajol learns horse riding. However, Shahrukh and Salman are reincarnated souls of Arjun and Karan who were killed 20 years ago in a village.
Released on 12 November 1993, Baazigar was the first time this couple came together on the silver screen. Under the brilliant direction of Abbas-Mustan, the movie was nominated for the best movie category. However it turned out lucky for Shahrukh who was awarded the best actor for the movie. According to the story Shahrukh’s dad and their business was overtaken by their former employee. This cost the family immense loss and leaves them in broken finical conditions. Years after this tragic event, Shahrukh returns as Vicky and traps down the betrayer by marrying his daughter Kajol (Priya).
4. My Name Is Khan
The movie was directed by Karan Johar and once again he succeeded in his directorial plans with some brilliant romantic scenes shot between the couple. This was the third time Karan was plotting a storyline around the so called golden couple of the Bollywood. The movie was released on 12 February 2010 and broke all box office records making it highest-grossing Bollywood film overseas at the time. Born with a certain medical disorder Shahrukh (Rizwan) shifts to San Francisco where he falls in love with Kajol (Mandira). Despite the fact that Mandira has a young baby boy (Sameer) from her last marriage, the couple decides to settle down after marriage. The romantic story comes to an end when Sameer got killed due to Rizwan’s Islamic ethnicity.
3. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Written and directed by Karan Johar, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was released on 14 December 2001 and was distributed by Yash Raj Films. This drama film had some of the most brilliant Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. In this movie Shahrukh plays the role of Amitabh’s (Yashvardhan “Yash” Raichand) elder son Rahul who falls in love with Kajol (Anjali, a local girl from the town). Due to their different working class backgrounds, Yashvardhan refuses the marriage of Rahul and Anjali. The couple then moves apart from the family and resides in London. After ten long years, Hrithik Roshan (Rohan) promises his mother to bring Rahul and Anjali back to their lives.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was another directorial debut of a talented film maker, Karan Johar. Karan’s gamble with choosing the couple over all others bore fruits. He took the responsibility of producing and writing the movie on his own and also directed the couple brilliantly, which made movie the highest grossing Indian film of the year. The story is about two best college friends Shahrukh (Rahul) and Anjali (Kajol). Rahul is a big time flirt in college, whereas Anjali is a tomboy who loves teasing her flirty, naughty buddy every time he tries something new. However, the things get a different when Tina (Rani Mujherjee) comes to the college for her degree. Following his father’s legacy of producing the most romantic movies in Bollywood, Aditya Chopra made an impressive debutant with DDLJ. The movie portrayed the story of a couple brought up in two opposite parenting style, and how they fall in love with each other on a trip to Europe.
