Stunning the world with her unbelievable talent, 5 years old Cherukuri Dolly Shivani set two records and got her name registered in the India Book of Records and the Asian Book of Records. The young yet proficient archer shot 103 arrows at her target that was 10 meters away in a mere 11 minutes and 19 seconds using Indian arrows and a compound bow. After taking a rest of half-an-hour after this attempt, she fired 36 arrows from a distance of 20 meters in just 5 minutes and 8 seconds, scoring 290 out of 360 points. Her family, admirers, a number of administrators and a team from German television channel ProSieben were the witnesses of Shivani’s feat.
This is not the first time that little Shivani has created a national record in archery. In 2015, when she was just 3 years old, she became the youngest Indian to score 200 points over 5 and 7-meter distances. The little girl takes her archery training at The Volga Archery Academy in Vijayawada, 250 km from Hyderabad and is believed to be preparing for Olympics 2024.
The Hindu quotes B. Shravan Kumar, an official from the Archery Association of India saying,
We were expecting her score around 250. But 290 is very encouraging. It is a big challenge to her considering her tiny hands and supple shoulders. Fifteen times she punched nine points and twice 10 points. This signifies the concentration level of the young kid.
A 3-member crew from German channel ProSieben has arrived in India to make a documentary on Dolly Shivani. The film’s director Sara Klare said,
Our TV channel is a private one in Germany and we will feature Shivani in our popular programme – Galileo – in the wonder kid category.
Indira Choudary, adjudicator of India Book of Records handed over the certificate to Shivani and said that she is a special child and has the wherewithal to go places. The little archer has received congratulations from several other people including Dr. KKR Gowtham, Public School principal K. Avinesh, SAAP officer-on-special duty P. Ramakrishna, SRR & CVR College principal V. Joshi, Krishna University Sports Board secretary N. Srinivas and a number of other sports administrators.
During the practice session, she used to take 13 minutes. Now she reduced the timing considerably to create a new record. Shivani will be 13 when the 2024 Olympics will be held. Out target is to prepare Shivani for the grand sporting show and we need a top class coach to teach her the advanced techniques. I want Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to take note of the request and do the needful
Shivani comes from a family of archers. Her father runs an archery academy while her brother, who passed away six years ago, was an international archer and archery coach. Her unstoppable talent made Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commend her skills on Twitter. Have a look at his tweet below:
