On the occasion of Maha Shivratri on February 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 112 feet statue of Adiyogi Shiva in Coimbatore.

The statue has been designed by Jaggi Vasudev, who is the founder of Isha Foundation and who had invited the PM to do the unveiling saying there can be no better person.

The event was attended by over two lakh people and while addressing them Jaggi Vasudev revealed that it took him nearly two and a half years to design the bust and his “boys” eight months to build it.

After the unveiling, PM Modi called upon the people to remain united and insisted that ‘unity in diversity’ was special to the Indian culture and has brought the people together.

Modi also added that there is a need to protect nature, and to mould our actives in such a way that it protects the ecological surrounding around us.

“It is a speciality of our culture. With every God or Goddess, we can see an animal or tree. Animal or tree is worshipped with the same spirit…Lord Shiva is everywhere.”

It must be noted that in the yogic culture, Shiva is not a God, but the first Guru or the Adi Guru, he is thus referred as the Adi Yogi or the first Yogi and is of paramount significance to all the Yogis around the world.
