If you’re a true Bolly buff, you would easily agree that many Bollywood’s supporting roles grip the audiences more with their characterizations. Their talent, even though underestimated at times, can leave cinema goers asking for more. These roles are performed so wholeheartedly, that sometimes you can forget they aren’t even the main lead! Ever since Bollywood flourished, these side characters have played a major part.

It is these Bollywood’s supporting roles – whether it’s a villain, an estranged lover, or even a sultry boss, which become iconic. Let’s recall some of those roles which stole the limelight from the main lead!

1. Paresh Rawal – Hera Pheri (2000)

Babu Bhaiya and his Baburao style made Hera Pheri, the iconic hit that it became! Paresh Rawal with his epic comic timing and hilarious expressions had the audience in splits. He was so funny in the movie, that even Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty fell short of breath!

 2. Siddharth Suryanarayan – Rang De Basanti (2006)

This 2006 ‘cult’ film had an ensemble cast of Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, R Madhavan etc, but Sidharth’s character Karan Singhania still was memorable. H will best be remembered for announcing his father’s death on live radio. What a character!

3. Saif Ali Khan – Omkara (2006)

‘Langda Tyagi’ aka Saif Ali Khan in Vishal Bharadwaj’s film Omkara can never be forgotten. Saif, who is otherwise known for his romantic roles, played the negative character like a pro! No one expected a ‘nawab’ to play a negative character with such fineness!

4. Kalki Koechlin – Dev D (2009)

Abhay Deol’s brilliant comedy-drama Dev D was widely appreciated by the audiences, but not before forgetting Kalki. The Indian-French actress played Chadramukhi in the 2009 movie which won her critical acclaim at the box office.

5. Amrita Puri – Aisha (2010)

The 2010 Sonam Kapoor Ahuja-Abhay Deol starrer, Aisha was probably another chick-flick, however, actresses like Amrita Puri and Ira Dubey were exceptionally good. Amrita made this adaptation of Emma, a special one, with her middle-class ways which won hearts.

6. Parineeti Chopra – Ladies VS Ricky Bahl (2011)

Dimple Chhada aka Priyanka Chopra’s cousin Parineeti Chopra, was the star of her debut film in 2011. Ladies VS Ricky Bahl was Parineeti’s launch pad, in which co-starred opposite Ranveer Singh. Both talents have given many hit films ever since.

7. Annu Kapoor – Vicky Donor (2012)

Vicky Donor couldn’t have been a hit without those hilarious dialogues by veteran actor Annu Kapoor.  His performance as Dr Chadha, a fertility specialist, was one character that stayed long in the hearts of audiences even after the movie left theatres.

8. Anil Kapoor – Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

The Zoya Akhtar directed Dil Dhadakne Do had some big names as its main cast. From Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh, it was chockablock already! However, Anil Kapoor as Kamal Mehra, head of a dysfunctional family, was truly remarkable!

9. Priyanka Chopra – Bajirao Mastani (2015)

The seductive scene between Peshwa Bajirao aka Ranveer Singh and Kashi Bai aka Priyanka Chopra was too hot to handle in this historical epic drama! Priyanka played her role as good as Mastani, played by Deepika Padukone. She totally nailed it as Kashi!

10. Jim Sarbh – Neerja (2016)

This Bollywood biopic on Neerja Bhanot was an all-out Sonam Kapoor movie. However, Jim Sarbh’s superb performance in the film as a terrorist was the film’s highlight. Jim’s performance was so well-received that once still trembles when you think about it.
